Massachusetts is a global hub for robotics. From Boston to the Merrimack Valley, on Cape Cod and in Western Massachusetts, our leading robotics companies, growing startups, world-class academic research labs, educational institutions and policymakers work closely together to spur robotics technology, innovation and business growth.

Here in Massachusetts cutting-edge technology is turned into real-world solutions. The opportunities for robots are infinite, as they work in people’s homes, in hospitals, across numerous industries or in research. They also vary in the shapes they take, from autonomous and underwater vehicles to aerial drones and warehouse robots.

As robotics technologies evolve, systems become more interconnected and robots will become increasingly more capable and autonomous. In the future, robots will play a greater role helping support workers, boost productivity, drive innovation and increase the quality of life – with robots helping to make our world a better place.

Massachusetts is helping to create a better future with:

  • 400+ innovative companies in the MA robotics ecosystem
  • >70 robotics R&D labs in Massachusetts
  • 1 in 4 robotics patents earned by MA inventors
  • MA is home to MassRobotics – the world’s largest independent robotics hub
  • $733.9M in venture capital invested in MA robotics companies in 2022 and 2023
  • The leading robotics industry verticals attracting venture capital in MA include AI/ML, Supply Chain Tech, Mobility Tech, and Manufacturing highlighting the Commonwealth’s strengths in robotics software, Warehouse & Logistics robotics, and industrial robots.
  • MA has world-class k-12 education system with 11 dedicated CVTE robotics programs and 41 CVTE engineering programs across the state.
  • There are 15 universities in MA specializing in robotics and engineering
  • There are 6 2-year degree programs focused on robotics and engineering
  • Strong STEM aptitude: In 2023, 68,000 10th-grade students averaged 89.1 out of 100 on statewide STEM tests.

Check out the Robotics Video below which shows the many robotics applications that can be found in the state today.

Extending Human Capability

More about the Ecosystem

The Massachusetts Robotics Industry Steering Committee is a collaborative group of industry leaders, academic experts and government innovation officials, convened by the MassTech Collaborative, with the mission of making Massachusetts the hub of the robotics’ universe. Members of the committee help inform an action agenda by analyzing and understanding the dynamics taking place within segments of the robotics industry in order to guide investments in physical and human capital necessary to grow the robotics cluster in Massachusetts.
